I've purchased quite a few sample packs from Definition Of Hard Techno over the years, and I've always been very satisfied with the quality of their products. I've invested a considerable amount of money in their libraries because I genuinely appreciate their sound and the resources they offer to producers.
What I particularly like about this latest collection is the decision to provide only part of the project rather than a fully finished track. In my opinion, this is a much more positive approach to music production. Sample packs and project files should be tools for learning, inspiration and experimentation, not a shortcut to creating almost finished tracks by simply changing a few sounds.
The problem with providing complete projects is that when too many producers use the same structures, ideas and arrangements, the result is that everything starts to sound the same. Industrial, Schranz, Techno and Hardgroove are styles with their own character and identity, and it is becoming increasingly important to preserve those differences rather than allowing the scene to become saturated with productions that barely sound different from one another.
That's why I think providing only part of the project in this latest release is a great decision. It leaves the producer responsible for developing their own ideas, creating their own arrangements and adding their personal touch. These tools should help producers improve their skills, not replace the creative process.
As a producer, I really appreciate this initiative, and I hope this approach continues in future releases. We need more creativity, originality and individual identity within the scene. Unfortunately, this is the opposite of what I'm seeing today, where it is becoming increasingly difficult to find productions with a genuinely distinctive sound.
This is simply my humble opinion, based on my own experience. It has taken me a lot of hard work to get where I am today. I started from scratch more than 20 years ago, creating my own sounds and learning how to develop my own musical identity. Even today, whenever I have the time, I continue creating my own sounds because I believe this is a fundamental part of being a music producer.
I understand that these tools can be extremely useful, especially for new producers, but I also believe that handing them an almost finished project can allow them to skip an important part of the learning and creative process. New producers should have the opportunity to experiment, make mistakes, learn and discover their own sound instead of relying on projects that have already been built for them.
I sincerely hope that future releases focus on providing samples, sounds and ideas for inspiration, leaving artists to build their own tracks, develop their arrangements and bring their creativity to the table. Samples should be a tool, not a substitute for creativity. Finished projects may make things easier, but they also risk turning music production into a matter of changing four sounds and releasing a track.
Because if we all start from the same projects, structures and arrangements, we will eventually all end up sounding the same. And that is precisely what I am seeing in the scene today: more and more productions losing their individuality, with fewer real differences between artists and styles.
**Music needs identity, personality and creativity, not prefabricated formulas. After more than 20 years of creating my own sounds, I still believe that being a producer means building something of your own, not simply modifying someone else's work. Give us the tools to create, not music that is practically finished. Let artists make music the way it should be made.**
